Dear Lynn,
On the first
of August some of the neighborhood girls told me that some lady
had had to move in a hurry and had given them her horse. I was surprised
by that, but when they asked if they could lead the horse down to
my house, I asked them why. Alysse told me that the horse was very
skinny and kept escaping from her yard.
Alysse and
Shondra led the mare to my house a few days later and immediately
my husband and I knew that she could not go home until she put on
some weight. She was dangerously thin and obviously depressed. We
knew that she was on the verge of needing vet care, and would need
knowledgeable care to recover.
I
called you that night because I have used Equizyme on my endurance
horse for years and I knew that you carried Equiflax that had the
flax in it for fat and energy. You kindly brought over a container
of Equiflax and we started a diet plan that included COB, alfalfa
and oat hay, and as much grazing as our time would permit.
We took photos
the next day, one month later, and on the tenth of October. The
difference is obvious. She is still gaining weight, but at a rate
that is not dangerous to her overall health. Her attitude improved
within a week, she now acts like a young horse. We helped the girls
create a shelter and pen that would hold the mare safely and taught
them some of the basics of proper horse-keeping.
I would say
that thanks to Healthy Horse Headquarters and Equiflax this mare
will have a better life. She definitely has a better home. Thanks
so much for all of your help and concern.
